Video Games

When people portray video games as mind corrupting and bad for kids i get very anoyed. For me video games are a way to level out the playing field. Being disabled I truly enjoy playing video game because they allow me to compete as hard as someone who can walk. Theres no advantage to the person that is not disabled. I just enjoy being equal and normally I can beat my opponent. Video games for me are an escape from the reality that I am disabled.

Video games are not mind corrupting or bad for kids. They do develop skills that my generation will never have. My son plays them to unwind and relax in the same way that I read or go on line to unwind. I'm glad you seek out opportunities to level the playing field Jordan. Just like everyone else, you have strengths and weaknesses--it's gotta feel great to beat the daylights out of your friends when they play you!

I never really thought about it from that perspective before. Maybe it is because I grew up in a house of 3 brothers who always won at video games, while I was left the loser. Well, when that is the case, you don't really want to play, and don't really see why anyone else would want to either. Prehaps the people who are saying that video games are bad, are the ones who are always losing.

Jordan... for the new 'mother blog assignment", you will be writing about violence in the media and whether or not it promotes war/more violence... feel free to discuss video games in your post... I think you have a top that you can keep coming back to throughout the year and beyond... A topic that will attract other readers...

Video games are far from the top of my list for enjoyable daily activities. However, this could stem from the fact that my little brother has beaten me EVERY SINGLE time we've played. I do see a usefulness however, they provide an outlet for him after a long day full of stress and pressure (you know how rough it is to be a 9th grader in high school). My honest opinion about video games, there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. To those people who criticize I would challenge them to generate a way to shift children's interests to novels or other more "acceptable" behaviors. That is where are problem lies, not in the video games themselves. We should be asking ourselves why kids would rather sit in front of a tv screen than read?

Jordan--you have to fix my comment. It's driving me crazy that I used the wrong our--please edit this. "That is where our problem lies. . ."
